My time in Nepal is officially over after spending two fun weeks from 30/12/22 – 13/1/23 getting to know this crazy yet fascinating country.
As amazing as my experience was, damn… it sure got off to a rocky start.
After a stressful 4 flights and 28 hours of travel from Scotland to Kathmandu to keep the costs down, I finally arrived in Kathmandu on New Years Eve’s eve where I learned of the real price I had paid. My luggage didn’t make it.
Long story short, and not that I knew this yet, but I wouldn’t have it for the entirety of my trip as it remained somewhere in New Delhi airport after yet another nightmare of a transfer in India with IndiGo.
I was left wondering for nearly a week whether I would even see it again but, eventually, after many emails and WhatsApp messages with the airline, it showed up in Kathmandu and I was reunited with it at the end of my trip.
Note to self: Avoid transfers through India with IndiGo. Two strikes and you’re out I’m afraid, not to mention in less than 12 months!
In summary, I spent 10 awesome days on my first ever GAdventures tour and had a few extra days in Kathamndu at either end.
The route:
Patan (Kathmandu) – Panuati – Bandipur – Pokhara – Patan
After spending New Year in the wild Thamel district of Kathmandu with some new pals, I copped some new clothes in Patan before we left the city to explore more of the country in a group of only 5.

- Renting a boat and paddling around Phewa Lake
- Trekking from Sanga to Panuati
- Watching the public cremations at Pashupatinath temple
- Sunrise over the Annapurna Ranges in Pokhara
- Visiting the beautiful mountaintop town of Bandipur
- Cycling around the rural villages near Panuati
- Trekking to Ramkot Village
Physically, my time in Nepal was pretty light. As much as I want to return someday and do some ‘proper trekking’, these two weeks were used as more as a taster for the country rather than seeing and doing absolutely everything I’ve dreamed of.
In the future, I really want to trek to Poon Hill or even Annapurna Basecamp.
